Grateful…

Hello… It has been a while…

This break, I committed to working 6 days. I told myself it would be important to do so. Important to “catch up” and then I could spend the rest of the time resting and playing with my family. Guess what… I haven’t worked…I have done a few LIVE videos for my PLC community and that is literally it… I realized that no matter what I do, the work will still be there. All of it. And if I do anything to “catch up” or to “get ahead” there will only be more work waiting for me later. So why?

I’ve realized that the pressures I am putting on myself and others are putting on me to take this time of “no school” to get content created and pushed out is only going to cause me more stress and frustration. Where as, taking naps with my kids, playing with bubbles all day in the back yard, and having a mid-day drink in the sun in a tank top and shorts while relishing December weather in Louisiana brings me tremendous joy, and fills my cup.

This year has been so incredibly challenging. Each and every one of us has faced tremendous challenges in our personal lives OUTSIDE of the new, ever changing, ever evolving demands of being a teacher during a pandemic. Through it, I’ve grown tremendously. I am more flexible than ever. I’ve learned to let a LOT go, I’ve continued to prioritize the JOY my students feel when they’re in my classroom (virtually, or in person) and I’ve realized that the only thing that really matters is making sure I stay in this profession for the long haul and that I can stay healthy and sane as possible for my precious family.

I hope that you’ve enjoyed relishing your break. I hope that you continue to do so through the rest of this weekend. If you MUST work, set a timer for 2 hours. When it goes off, stop what you’re doing, close your computer, and know it will all be there for you on Monday. (but MUST you work? really?)

I am so grateful for your love and support this year. Thank you for what you do. Thank you for your passion and dedication. Remember to continue to be gentle with yourself and give yourself grace, and your students too. I look forward to a peaceful, hopeful, joyful New Year.

Sending you love and happiness!

Happy RESTING, sweet teacher…

Love,

La Maestra Loca

  3. Hello,
I needed to hear this at this time. I will set the timer… and more importantly – remember to relish the JOY of being PRESENT with my family and ENJOYING them at the moment and you are right…it is a never ending job so give ourselves 2 hours and the REST with the family for your self and sanity…and there will be many more hours to work. Hope to learn that this year….DO NOT burn ourselves out..HERE’s to a much improved 2021~
HAPPY 2021 and Blessing to you.

  4. I love this post! Once you start presenting, blogging, doing all the things- it can feel so important to keep it up. And it is difficult to do so AND do all the teaching things. Especially this year. I too have stepped away from a few projects that I normally do for the sake of really focusing on other ones and to spend time with my family- or just by the fire. So glad that you had a great break! Much love!!!
